Vision and Mission of Arlington UMC

Vision:

Jesus Christ has determined the purpose for our church: "Go therefore and make disciples..."  Arlington United Methodist Church, now just past our 40th year (Sept. 2001) in Bridgeton, is a vibrant church reaching out to the community that we serve.  In line with our purpose as stated in Arlington's "Five-Year Plan" (1999), we strive to "teach, live and be the Gospel" as we provide "spiritual, physical, emotional and intellectual growth and support for our community."

While God's mission and purpose for our church  remains solid, our vision must continue to change with the generation and our surroundings.  Our present vision is centered on attracting families of any design or make-up.  Whether single parent, blended or traditional, our hope is to welcome all into our "church family" by offering excellent spiritual and relational programs for children, youth and adults of all ages.

Mission:  To be, live and teach the gospel

To continue to provide opportunities for spiritual growth for all members through worship, music ministry, and Christian education; to provide a sense of belonging for all members through the creation and support of comfortable groups of peers; and to take advantage of our stable pastorates and strong local staff.

To provide opportunities for spiritual growth to persons outside the church through Christian ministry, worship, programs and education; founded in the Gospel, these activities share the word of God so everyone can apply these teachings to their lives.

To help respond to the needs of the community through care, counseling, education, and recreation programs for families, children, youth, single adults and the elderly; to make our building a focus in the community through its availability to church-sponsored as well as other groups; to participate in other community groups, supporting them, identifying needs, and looking for roles for our church.
