History of Arlington UMC

In November 1914, "Arlington Methodist Episcopal Church, South" was organized from a mission Sunday school at 5404 St. Louis Avenue in Downtown St. Louis.  In 1921, a new brick building was erected at Union Boulevard, which remained until 1961.  At that time, under the leadership of Rev, Ronald Unser, a new church of Bridgeton, Missouri was established and the Union Boulevard church was sold.

The first Bridgeton services were held in the home of Walter and Ruby Kemper.  In the next few years, a building and parsonage site was purchased and construction began.

In 1965, under the direction of Rev. Neil Stein, the growing congregation approved plans for a new sanctuary and the structure was consecrated on November 4, 1973.  Following a fire in 1974, a major reconstruction of the educational wing was accomplished during the term of Rev. Paul Schlapbach.

During Rev. Keith Morgan's 13 years at Arlington (1994 to 2007), a new addition was planned and built.  It included a gym, many Sunday School and meeting rooms, a new Great Hall entrance for the main level, an elevator to access all 3 levels and space for Community Helping Ministry.

In June 2007, Pastor Mary F. Harvey began her pastoral leadership at Arlington.

Rev. Louis Johnson, Rev. S. Eugene Anglin, and Rev. Keith Morgan and now Pastor Mary F. Harvey (our current Pastor), have since ably served God, the congregation, and the surrounding community.
